Executive Board Position Descriptions: 

As a member of the Alternative Spartan Breaks Executive Board, you will gain valuable skills such as: organization, conflict resolution, time management, communication, and leadership. Please read through each position carefully as they will list what each position will entail for the upcoming year. There will be a more detailed explanation of each position at our Transition Meeting with the current Executive Board once the new Executive Board is chosen.

 

PRESIDENT

*Will require work to be done over the summer but can be done remotely. This position is estimated to be around 10-20 hours per week, pending on the time of year*

 

This position includes, but is not limited to:

-Overseeing and upholding the standard of work of VPs and E-Board members

-Attend weekly VP meetings and advisor meetings

-Management tasks: coordinating meeting times, creating agendas, regulate university funding

-Maintaining the relationship with Breakaway, and other MSU organizations

-Updating ASB’s Constitution, setting goals, developing the best practices and procedures

 

VICE PRESIDENT OF SERVICE

*Will require work to be done over the summer but can be done remotely. This position is estimated to be around 15-20 hours per week, pending on the time of year*

 

This position includes, but is not limited to:

-Managing Trip Planner and Logistics Chairs

-Attend weekly VP meetings and advisor meetings

-Maintaining/creating Community Partner relationships effectively via phone/email/video chat

-Planning the Site Leader retreat

-Ensuring that trips have sufficient service and housing arrangements

-Working with the treasurer to ensure all service and housing payments are made

 

VICE PRESIDENT OF EDUCATION

*Will require work to be done over the summer but can be done remotely. This position is estimated to be around 10-20 hours per week, pending on the time of year*

<Preferred, but not required: Education majors>

 

This position includes, but is not limited to:

-Managing Site Leader Chair and Site Leaders

-Attend weekly VP meetings and advisor meetings

-Work with advisor and Site Leader Chair to plan, develop, organize, and execute a training curriculum for all Site Leaders

-Planning and leading Org-Wide meetings

-Interviewing, choosing, and pairing Site Leaders with the Site Leader Chair

-Planning and developing weekly Site Leader training curriculum

-Leading Site Leader trainings

VICE PRESIDENT OF EXTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS

*Will require work to be done over the summer but can be done remotely. This position is estimated to be around 10-20 hours per week, pending on the time of the year*

 

This position includes, but is not limited to:

-Managing Outreach and Fundraising chairs

-Attend weekly VP meetings and advisor meetings

-Creating ideas for campus-wide recruitment and involvement

-Running social media platforms

-Creating and executing a strategic marketing plan: such as social media posts and flyers

  

VICE PRESIDENT OF INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS

*Will require work to be done over the summer but can be done remotely. This position is estimated to be 10-15 hours per week, pending on the time of the year*

Preferred: experience with Qualtrics

 

This position includes, but is not limited to:

-Attend weekly VP meetings and advisor meetings

-Establishing effective communication between all Breakers through email daily

-Creating and managing all participant and university partner applications, acceptance forms, and trip evaluations through Qualtrics

-Monitoring all adds and drops within the trips

-Help create and share ASB newsletter and org-wide news

  

VICE PRESIDENT OF FINANCE

*Will require work to be done over the summer but can be done remotely. This position is estimated to be 10-15 hours per week, pending on the time of the year*

<Required: basic knowledge and understanding of Excel and formulas>

 

This position includes, but is not limited to:

-Managing Finance chair

-Attend weekly VP meetings and advisor meetings

-Work with Service team to pay housing and and service fees

-Book transportation and mid-drive hotels

-Create trip budgets

LOGISTICS CHAIR

*Will require work to be done over the summer but can be done remotely. This position is estimated to be 9-10 hours per week, pending on the time of year*

 

This position includes, but is not limited to:

-Attending Service Team Meetings, working under the Service VP

-Maintaining Community Partner relationships via consistent communication

-Planning 3-5 trips (with existing Community Partners or creating new Community Partner relationships)

-Ensuring the completion of Community Partner Agreements, and all necessary forms

-Securing housing sites for the respective trips

 

SITE LEADER CHAIR

*Will require work to be done over the summer but can be done remotely. This position is estimated to be 8-10 hours per week, pending on the time of the year*

<Preferred, but not required: Education majors>

 

This position includes, but is not limited to:

-Attending Education Team Meetings, working under the Education VP

-Executing Site Leader recruitment, applications, interviews and placement

-Assisting with creation, organization and execution of Site Leader Curriculum

-Leading trainings along with VP of Education

-Be the email/phone communication link for Site Leaders

-Handling all logistics and paperwork

 

OUTREACH CHAIR

*Will require work to be done over the summer but can be done remotely. This position is estimated to be 5-10 hours per week, pending on the time of the year*

 

This position includes, but is not limited to:

-Attending External Team Meetings, working under the External VP

-Creating, posting, handing out flyers across campus

-Chalking the walk

-Attending and presenting at: Sparticipation, Informational Sessions, and Promotional Outreach Events

 

FINANCE CHAIR

*Will require work to be done over the summer but can be done remotely. This position is estimated to be 10-15 hours per week, pending on the time of the year* <Requirement: Basic knowledge and understanding of Excel and formulas>

This position includes, but is not limited to:

-Attending Finance Team Meetings, working under the Finance VP

-Work with Service team to pay housing and and service fees

-Book transportation and mid-drive hotels

BREAKER CHAIR

*This position is estimated to be 9-10 hours per week, pending on the time of the year.*

This position includes, but is not limited to:

-Attending weekly E-board meetings

-Work with the president and Internal VP to communicate with breakers

-Take notes and keep minutes at weekly E-board meetings

-Assist the communication team with any additional tasks as needed

-Creating and distributing ASB newsletter

EVENTS & FUNDRAISING CHAIR

*This position is estimated to be 10-15 hours per week, pending on the time of the year.*

This position includes, but is not limited to:

-Attending Communication and Finance Team Meetings, working under the External VP and Finance VP

-Advertising and administering events 

-Planning and overseeing all ASB events and fundraisers such as Lotteries, Kick-Off Parties, and the Celebration

-Establishing lasting relationships with various organizations around East Lansing to coordinate fundraising events

-Executing and attending all fundraising events
