Executive Board Position Descriptions: 

All positions will be expected to attend weekly e-board and site leader meetings. The days and times of these meetings will be determined based on the availability of all of the eboard members. Additionally, all board members are required to be a participant on either a winter or spring trip. Persons applying for e-board must be undergraduate students and geographically located in East Lansing for the duration of the 2019-2020 academic year. 

President (1 Position)

*Will require work to be done over the summer but can be done remotely. This position is estimated to be around 10-20 hours per week, pending on the time of year*

This position includes, but is not limited to:

-Management tasks: coordinating meeting times, creating agendas, setting calendar

-Maintaining the relationship with Breakaway, and other MSU organizations

-Overseeing VPs, and to an extent, the remaining E-Board

-Updating ASB’s Constitution, setting goals, developing the best practices and procedures

-Creating and organizing the E-Board retreat in August

Vice president of service (1 Position)

*Will require work to be done over the summer but can be done remotely. This position is estimated to be around 15-20 hours per week, pending on the time of year*

This position includes, but is not limited to:

-Attending VP meetings

-Managing Trip Planners and Site Leader Pilots

-Maintaining/creating Community Partner relationships effectively via phone/email/videochat

-Planning the Site Leader retreats

-Overseeing the completion of Community Partner Agreements

-Ensuring that trips have sufficient service and housing arrangements

-Working with the Finance Team to ensure all service and housing payments are made


Vice president of Education (1 Position)

*Will require work to be done over the summer but can be done remotely. This position is estimated to be around 10-20 hours per week, pending on the time of year*

<Preferred, but not required: Education majors>

This position includes, but is not limited to:

-Attending VP meetings

-Managing SL Chair, Training Chair and Site Leaders

-Interviewing, choosing, and pairing Site Leaders with the Site Leader Chair

-Planning and developing weekly Site Leader training curriculum with Training Chair

-Leading Site Leader training

vice president of Finance (1 Position)

*Will require work to be done over the summer but can be done remotely. This position is estimated to be around 10-20 hours per week, pending on the time of year. Busy times are generally around events, and before and after breaks*

**Requirements: Basic knowledge and understanding of Excel and formulas**

This position includes, but is not limited to:

-Attending VP Meetings

-Managing Trip Logistics Chair and Breaker Logistics Chair

-Attending CashNet training

-Overseeing ASB’s two bank accounts and refund requests

-Obtaining funding from MSU Organizations, companies, and other sources


vice president of external communications (1 Position)

*Will require work to be done over the summer but can be done remotely. This position is estimated to be around 10-20 hours per week, pending on the time of the year. Busy times are generally around the beginning of each semester

This position includes, but is not limited to:

-Attending VP Meetings

-Managing Marketing and Events/Fundraising Chairs, and to an extent, Outreach Committee

-Creating ideas for campus-wide recruitment and involvement

-Oversees events and fundraising events

-Setting up informational sessions and club/department presentations as necessary

Vice president of Internal Communications (1 position)

*This position is estimated to be 10-15 hours per week, pending on the time of the year*

This position includes, but is not limited to:

-Attending VP Meetings

-Establishing effective communication between all Breakers through email daily

-Reviewing all participant and University Partner applications

-Monitoring all adds and drops within the trips

-Working with the Finance Team to ensure all Breakers have submitted payments


Trip Planners (4 Positions)

*Will require work to be done over the summer but can be done remotely. This position is estimated to be 10-14 hours per week, pending on the time of year*

This position includes, but is not limited to:

-Attending Service Team Meetings, working under the Service VP

-Maintaining Community Partner relationships via consistent communication

-Planning 3-5 trips (with existing Community Partners or creating new Community Partner relationships)

-Ensuring the completion of Community Partner Agreements, and all necessary forms

-Securing housing sites for the respective trips

-Initiating contact transfer between Community Partners and the Site Leaders


site leader chair (2 Positions)

*Will require work to be done over the summer but can be done remotely. This position is estimated to be 8-10 hours per week, pending on the time of the year*

This position includes, but is not limited to:

-Attending Education Team Meetings

-Executing Site Leader recruitment, applications, interviews and placement

-Be the email/phone communication link for Site Leaders

-Handling all logistics and paperwork


Training Chair (1 Position)

*Will require work to be done over the summer but can be done remotely. This position is estimated to be 8-10 hours per week, pending on the time of the year*

<Preferred, but not required: Education majors>

This position includes, but is not limited to:

-Attending Education Team Meetings

-Assisting with creation, organization and execution of Site Leader Curriculum

-Leading trainings along with VP of Education


Breaker Logistics Chair (1 Position)

*This position is estimated to be 9-10 hours per week, pending on the time of the year.*

**Requirement: Basic knowledge and understanding of Excel and formulas**

This position includes but is not limited to:

-Attending Finance Meetings

-Managing all Breaker payments through CashNet and Excel

-Tracking donations from fundraisers (ex. Adopt-A-Breaker)

-Breaker Scholarships


trip logistics chair (1 Position)

*This position is estimated to be 9-10 hours per week, pending on the time of the year.*

**Requirement: Basic knowledge and understanding of Excel and formulas**
This position includes but is not limited to:

-Attending Finance Meetings

-Working with Service Team to pay housing and service fees

-Book transportation, and mid-drive hotels

-Create trip budgets


Marketing Chair (1 Position)

*Will require work to be done over the summer but can be done remotely. This position is estimated to be 8-10 hours per week, pending on the time of the year*

**Please bring a sample of any ASB promotion material**

<Preferred, but not required: Graphic Design major>

This position includes, but is not limited to:

-Attending External Communications Team Meetings

-Managing Outreach Committee to help promote events, fundraisers, trips, and implement outreach ideas

-Creating posts through Canva for all social media posts (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter) and monthly email newsletters

-Creating and designing ASB clothing and swag

Fundraising and Events Chair (1 position)

*This position is estimated to be 10-14 hours per week, pending on the time of the year. Busy times are around organizational events*

This position includes, but is not limited to:

-Attending External Communications Team Meetings

-Planning and overseeing all ASB events and fundraisers such as Lotteries, Kick-off Parties, and the end of the year Celebration

-Establishing lasting relationships with various organizations around East Lansing, to coordinate fundraising events

-Executing at, and being present at all fundraising and events

outreach committee ( 5 Positions)

*This team is estimated to be 5 hours per week. Busy times will be the first few months of each semester*

This team’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

-Working under the guidance of the Marketing Chair/VP of External Communications

-Creating, posting and handing out flyers around campus

-Chalking the walk

-Attending and presenting at: Sparticipation, informational sessions, and promotional outreach events
